Book #4: Blood, Bones & Butter- Gabrielle Hamilton
I had seen this book on several best lists of 2011 and it peaked my curiousity. Prune was one of those restaurants that lingered on my list forever, but sadly one I never tried. Gabrielle Hamilton takes you on the journey of her life and is very candid and frank about her experiences and opinions.
Her book is very descriptive and sensory, especially the portions pertaining to food and memory....
Chilly morning but warm & full. Thanks goes to my husband who froze his butt off getting doughnut vault for his girls!

Yes. What a steal. Not a huge fan of books on Kindle, but I can in no way pass this up.

Date Night
Last night we headed to Publican, which has been on my list since reading about it years ago in Bon Appetit. We arrived early, the place was already buzzing, despite only being 7:15! We had some yummy belgian wines, the winter panzanella—-this was delicious, tuscan kale, white anchovies & olive bread. I know I will be thinking about this until I can try to humbly recreate it! We also...

Random Musings
Woke up dizzy & despite rehydrating, having a piece of toast, still dizzy. Def. not preggers. Any remedies? Am drinking some peppermint tea now and it seems to help.
Looking forward to trying the Publican tomorrow night. What are must try’s?
In keeping with resto theme, I have a girls weekend coming up with 3 friends who will be visiting Chicago. Need two restos and two places for...

Book # 3: 31 Bond Street
Having recently finished “An Inconvenient Wife”, a historical fiction novel set in late 1800’s NYC, I kept with the theme and picked up “31 Bond Street”, by Ellen Horan. The novel is rich with history and suspense as it begins with the gruesome murder of Dr. Burdell, a bachelor and wealthy dentist, who resides at 31 Bond Street. The murder is in fact true & the...

Must Watch: Urbanized
I love cities & urban planning! I could go on for days about Robert Moses, Jane Jacobs and the like, so you can imagine my enthusiasm upon coming across the “Urbanized” documentary. Urbanized is produced and directed by Gary Hustwit, who also produced the documentaries “Helvetica” & “Objectified”.
The film is a thought provoking discussion on how cities...

And I will be in line!!
thedoughnutvault:
Get ready— Fat Tuesday is bringing the very first ever, Pączki or Panzk (a.k.a. a jam filled doughnut) to the Vault. Whatever moniker you’d like to give it, the doughnut’s deliciousness knows no cultural bounds. It’s a combination of fantastic doughnut goodness and red berry fruit. We’ve…

Great find.
Reading this month’s Travel & Leisure, I stumbled upon a small write-up on zocdoc.com
What is it you ask? Basically it’s opentable for doctors! Brilliant, since you can enter your zip code, search by discipline, insurance and view appointment slots as well as ratings!
Frankly, this is genius, since I used to spend at least 30 mins on hold at my doctor’s office just to...

Happy Love Day!
Admittedly, I love every holiday—my mom was really good at making each one feel special. I remember she would always have little bags for us- filled with cool pens/pencils, stickers, books, etc. To me, Valentine’s Day isn’t about Hallmark & romance (though, the romance bit never hurts). It’s for celebrating love of all kinds. Love of your family, love of your friends,...

Random Musings
I’ve been a long time zipcar user- but the past two times have been disasters. Friday night, was heading to pick-up some stuff at West Elm and well, there was no car! After 20 mins in the cold, my patience wore thin. Fortunately zipcar was cool about it all by refunding me & giving me a couple bonus hours credit & I was able to go yesterday!
Scooped up a relatively toddler friendly...

Book #2: An Inconvenient Wife- Megan Chance
I picked up this book at the recommendation of my sister in-law who said she couldn’t put it down! She has a toddler and a newborn, so I figured if she made the time for it, it must be good!
Without revealing too much, the novel takes place in New York in the 1880’s. The author does a great job explaining the era (historical and cultural) and the inequalities surrounding class and...

luck, it must be said, is a loaded word... →
emphasisadded:
luck, it must be said, is a loaded word. sometimes someone’s luck is nothing of their own doing, a result of the privilege of their birth. sometimes we mean luck in the purest way, the happenstance of sitting next to the right person on a bus. (this sort of luck seems practically mythical; one wonders if it ever happens.) but for many people, “luck” is something of their...

Thanks to meintraining for the link to the test
Summary of my “supposed” personality traits (some are accurate, but others simply wrong- I particularly love strange/weird different people. How do you think I lasted in NYC for so long?
